Aquaporin is a Danish biotech and water technology company with offices and activities around the world. The company has developed a unique membrane technology inspired by nature’s own water channels.
Built on Nobel Prize-winning research, the technology is used to purify and reuse water across industries and in the home and have been tested in space in collaboration with NASA and ESA. A Danish deep-tech innovation helping solve some of the world’s biggest water challenges.
Challenge
The core of Aquaporin’s technology is as groundbreaking as it is complex.
For more than 20 years, the company has worked to make it possible to integrate nature’s own water channels – aquaporins – into industrial membranes. A technological achievement that was long considered close to impossible.
The challenge was to make the technology understandable without oversimplifying it – while also communicating the years of research, development and innovation behind it.
Solution
We developed the Core Technology film as a larger story about the idea, science and technology behind Aquaporin.
Through storytelling, animation and visual explanations, we made the complex process easier to understand: from the aquaporin protein found in nature to its integration into a membrane that can be used for water filtration at scale.
The film made it possible to understand not only how the technology works, but why it is so remarkable that it works at all.
The film was later also featured in a BBC documentary.
